If males complained about getting dirty they were called fags, or if they wore pants that were too tight they were called fags. Fag was a label for anyone who did not express masculinity they were seen as homosexuals and as feminine.
Everyone both girls and boys used the word fag but the word gay was hardly ever used. The only males that wore baggy jeans were African Americans. These African American were seen as hyper-sexual individuals and were banned from many school activities.
No African American girls were allowed to be cheerleaders. One openly homosexual individual was discriminated against and was seen as a threat to the hetero-normative values at the school. Straight males refused to attend prom or other school events if they knew that the gay guy would be there because the gay boy wore dresses to these events and the straight boys felt they would be tempted to beat the gay boy up so they just stayed home.
Also straight boys would throw rocks at the gay boy and attempt to harm him or threaten him so he would always gave to carry a rock in his hand to throw back at the boys that tease him. The teachers and administrators all support the uses of words like gay and fag.
Yet the school does not allow for teachers to talk about sex or for them to distribute condoms to students. The popularity of the high school students depend on what sports teams them play on or what girls they date.
The boys would brag about their sex lives and pressure girls for sex in order to have a story to tell the other guys.
Boys want to be chosen as a candidate for Mr. Cougar the most popular boy in school. Senior year 6 boys are chosen as candidates then they have to perform a skit in front of everyone to be voted as the winner.
Each skit expresses masculinity and femininity. One skit was of two boys dressed up feminine that represented nerds. They had girlfriends but their girls were stolen by masculine gangsters in baggy pants.
